I thought I would attach this picture of David doing his morning stretches. Every morning before David gets going he stretches out with the help of his mom. This morning Oliver, the big cat stretching out next to him, and Thelma, coaching him, decided to join David in his work out. Oliver is a cat that adopted David and family when we were living on Main St.
A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Travis and Spencer Blanchard who came over yesterday to get the TV mounted above the fireplace. David has been enjoying it Immensely! It is wireless and can be controlled from his Ipad. Thanks guys!
David’s current fund raising goal is to raise enough money to purchase a manual wheelchair.
A manual wheelchair would do many things for David including increasing his Independence and mobility. Right now he has an electric wheelchair which weights 350 pounds. When he is sitting in it the whole rig weights over 500 pounds. The only way to get him around is by his van. He is limited to where he can go. If there are stairs the electric wheelchair is to heavy to lift up.
Manual wheelchairs are strong and light weight. They also fold down so David can ride in anyone’s vehicle. A manual wheelchair would also provide exercise and strength training.
Manual wheelchairs are expensive. They are costum built to fit the user physically and also designed to fit their lifestyle, and in David’s case that would be an active lifestyle. Right now we are looking at a cost between $6,000 and $8,000 for a chair. Unfortunately the chair would not be covered under insurance so we are looking to raise funds through fundraisers.
This May we are looking at having a tag sale out at our home on 124 Old Walpole road. If you have items, that are not broken, and still have a useful life, gather them up and get them over to us.
More information to follow on this.
We are also open to any and all fundraising ideas. Let us know what you are thinking.
